PreP (Pre-Exposure Prophylaxis)
PreP is HIV prevention treatment taken before having unprotected sex with an individual whose HIV status is unknown or who is HIV positive with an unknown viral load. When taken correctly as prescribed, PreP significantly reduces the risk of HIV infection.
PEP (Post-Exposure Prophylaxis)
PEP is an emergency HIV prevention treatment taken after possible exposure to HIV. It must be started within 72 hours after unprotected sex with a known HIV-positive individual with an unknown viral load, or with a person whose HIV status is unknown. PEP is taken for a short course under medical supervision.
For individuals living with HIV, early treatment helps control the virus and maintain good health. Treatment plans are tailored according to medical assessment and national guidelines.
Ongoing care includes regular monitoring, medication support, and health education to ensure effective viral suppression.
The consultation includes a private discussion of medical history and current health. Testing or review of results is done where necessary.
Treatment options are explained clearly, and ongoing care plans are discussed. Patient confidentiality is always maintained.
An HIV consultation should be booked if:
HIV testing is required
A recent exposure is suspected
HIV treatment or follow-up care is needed
Ongoing HIV management and monitoring is required
Family planning care should be private, safe, and easy to access. Appointments are available for consultations, prescriptions, and procedures.
